Chair Professor Kuan-Neng Chen in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University wins the Outstanding Research Award of the Pan Wen Yuan Foundation

Chair Professor Kuan-Neng Chen of the Institute of Electronics in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University won the Pan Wen Yuan Foundation “2022 Outstanding Research Award”. The award recognizes outstanding world-wide Chinese researchers in the fields of electronics, information and communication, and the quota of winners per year is not more than three.

Kuan-Neng Chen is currently the Chair Professor of the Institute of Electronics, received his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was a Research Staff Member at IBM Watson Research Center. He is the main promoter of the next-generation key technology "3D IC and heterogeneous integration", and has been involved in the related research in the field of 3D integrated circuits, covering 3D integrated circuits, heterogeneous integration and advanced packaging technology for more than 20 years. Chair Professor Kuan-Neng Chen established a research team with innovative and practical ability. In addition to authoring books, he published more than 300 journals and conference papers, including 16 top IEEE international conferences IEDM, VLSI, and ISSCC. Chair Professor Chen’s research achievements have industrial application and academic value, and his name is listed in 83 patents world-wide. At the same time, he has also been at important positions such as conference chair, program chair and committee member in various international conferences, and is a reviewer of more than 40 international journals. He is also currently the program director of the Micro-Electronics Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Chair professor Kuan-Neng Chen 's excellent research achievements have been repeatedly recognized world-wide over the years, including two Outstanding Research Awards of the Ministry of Science and Technology (2021, 2018), the National Industrial Innovation Award of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (2021), IMAPS William D. Ashmon – John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award (2021), Future Technology Breakthrough Award of the Ministry of Science and Technology (2018), IEEE EPS Exceptional Technical Achievement Award (2018), Micron Chair Professor (2018), Outstanding Engineering Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Engineers (2017), Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award of the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (2014), etc.. He also won six National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (including National Chiao Tung University) Industry-University Technology Exchange Outstanding Contribution Awards and five IBM Invention Achievement Awards, and is currently a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow, IMAPS Fellow, and a member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society of the Republic of China.

Professor Kuan-Neng Chen is not only outstanding in research, but also committed to developing forward-looking technologies and implementing the achievements in the industry, assisting domestic and foreign industrial upgrade. His industry-academia cooperation and technology transfer benefit various industry field, including IC design, wafer foundry, packaging and testing, electronic components, electronic materials, and equipment, etc., and have made important contributions to the promotion of human economic development and civilization.
