Introduction

        David W. Lin received the B.S. degree in 1975 from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, ROC, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1979 and 1981, respectively, from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, all in electrical engineering.
        
        He has been with Bell Laboratories (1981-1983), Bellcore (1984-1990 and again 1993-1994 on leave from National Chiao Tung University), and National Chiao Tung University (1990-). He is presently a professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering and the Center for Telecommunications Research, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu. He has conducted research in the areas of digital adaptive filtering and telephone echo cancellation, digital subscriber line transmission, cable modems, wireless transmission, speech coding and video coding. His research interests include various subjects in telecommunications transmission and signal processing.
