Introduction

        Professor Wei Hwang is a Chair Professor of Electronics Engineering and Institute of Electronics., National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan since Aug. 2002. He was the Acting President and Senior Vice President of NCTU from July 2005 to January 2007. He was Director of Microelectronics and Information Systems research center from 2002 to 2008, and Director of System-on-Chip (SoC) Research Center of NCTU from 2003 to 2006. Before he joined NCTU, he was a Research Staff Member at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY where he worked on high performance memory and microprocessor design from 1984 to 2002. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University in New York, NY from 1993 to 2002. He was Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Department at Columbia University in New York from 1979 to 1984. He was Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Concordia University in Montreal from 1975 to 1978. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Manitoba, his M.S. degree from National Chiao-Tung University, and his B.S. degree from National Cheng-Kung University.
        
        His current research interests are in ultra-low power design in nano-scale CMOS technology, multi-core architectures, and micro-power applications. He has received several IBM Awards, including sixteen IBM Invention Plateau Invention Achievement Awards, four IBM Research Division Technical Awards, has been elected an IBM Master Inventor. He has also received the CIEE Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award in 2004 and Outstanding Scholar Award from the Foundation for the advancement of Outstanding Scholarship for 2005 to 2010. Dr. Hwang is the coauthor of the book "Electrical Transports in Solids-with particular reference to organic semiconductors", which has been translated into Russian and Chinese. He has presented numerous plenary, invited or tutorial papers/talks at international conferences. He has authored or coauthored over 180 technical papers in renowned international journals and conferences, and holds over 150 international patents (including 65 U.S. patents).
        
        Dr. Hwang was President, Board Director and Chairman of the Boards of Directors of the Chinese American Academic and Professional Society (CAAPS), NY, USA from 1986 to 1999. He is a member of the New York Academy of Science, Sigma Xi and Phi Tau Phi Society. He has served as the General Chair of 2007 IEEE SoC Conference (SOCC 2007) and the General Chair of 2007 IEEE International Workshop on Memory Technology, Design and Testing (MTDT 2007). He has served several times in the Technical Program Committees of the IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED), IEEE International ASIC/SoC Conference (SOCC) and IEEE Asia Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC). He has also served as editor-in-chief, “System-on-chip (SoC)”, two special issues for CIEE Magazine, Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, (CIEE) 2005, and for Electronic Monthly Magazine 2004, respectively. He was the Chairman of IC industry committee of CIEE from 2003 to 2006. He also served as Co-Principal Investigator of National System-on-Chip (NSoC) Program in Taiwan from 2003 to 2007. Dr. Hwang was a Governing Board Member of IEEE Taipei Section, from 2007 to 2010. Currently, he is serving as the Director of NCTU and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Joint Research Center and Director of Center for Advanced Information Systems and Electronics Research (CAISER) of University System of Taiwan, UST and He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
